Wilcombe PTA

At Wilcombe Primary we consider all parents, carers and staff to be members of our PTA and warmly welcome anyone who wants to help at events or has new ideas to bring to meetings.  We frequently hold events to raise funds.  However, we recognise that some events are purely social opportunities for parents and children to meet up outside of the school day.

The PTA frequently hold meetings both during the working day and the evenings, to accommodate all our parents.  The meetings are advertised through the school newsletter, so please feel free to join us.

Our AGM is held in October of each year and our committee for this year is below.

I am a team leader with MDDC, I work full time, but still have time to invest in Wilcombe PTA to maximise it’s potential to raise funds for the school.  I have three boys one in Reception, one in year 3 and one in year 5.

Both my daughters attend the school and I already helped out at PTA events.  However, this year I wanted to have a more active role in the running of the PTA and am looking forward to my year as Secretary and Treasurer.

Jubilee Celebration

This year instead of a Summer Fete the PTA organised a Jubilee Celebration in conjunction with Sunningmead Community Centre.  Held over both sites this was a whole community event and was a great success.  There was entertainment, a bar, BBQ, as well as the usual stalls such as tombola, candy floss, bouncy castles, wellie wanging and a raffle to name but a few.

The main arena at Wilcombe School site also offered traditional games, for both children and adults, such as a sack race, egg and spoon race, as well as tug of war.  The tug of war proved hugely popular with parents when the staff fielded a team!

Quiz Night and Disco

The PTA held a Quiz Night and Disco.  The venue was given free of charge by the Royal British Legion and 14 teams entered.   Mr Cossey acted as Quiz Master and did a brilliant job.   There was a wooden spoon prize for the losing team, which was made up of members of staff who shall remain nameless.  The winning team, which included Miss Oxenham, also took the prize of a bottle of champagne for the the ‘liveliest table’!  A buffet which had been prepared by members of the PTA followed and then a disco.

It was a great evening and a wonderful social event which raised approximately £450 for PTA funds.

Carols by Candlelight - December 2011

In conjunction with the PTA we held a Carols by Candlelight evening.  Children performed a series of carols and Christmas songs for parents, grandparents and members of our community.

The children sang on the front playground and inside the school there was a series of stalls selling Christmas crafts and goodies.

The PTA raised just under £500 and more importantly a great sociable evening was had by all.

Halloween Disco - October 2011

On Thursday 20th October our PTA held their annual Halloween Disco.  The turnout was amazing with the majority of the school attending and all the costumes were brilliant.  The winners of the best costumes were:

Foundation Stage – 1st Croyde Baker and 2nd Harry Colman

Key Stage 1 – 1st  Matthew Thompson and 2nd Charlotte Sloman

Key Stage 2 – 1st Shannon Coventry and 2nd Ethan Thorne

We would like to thank our PTA for organising the event and their new candy floss machine when down a treat.  As well as being a brilliant social event for the children they made £288 profit.
