About Early Years

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Wilcombe Primary, we begin laying the foundation for each child's learning journey. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum that fosters development through a holistic, play-based approach. Our curriculum is tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of the children in both our Preschool and Reception classes, ensuring that their learning is engaging and meaningful.

Children participate in a combination of child-initiated and adult-guided activities, allowing them to explore and discover at their own pace. Our extensive indoor and outdoor learning environments are designed to encourage active learning through play, promoting creativity and independence.

Our Early Years Structure:

Nursery Class: Located in a newly refurbished preschool building, offering a nurturing environment for early development.

  • Reception Class: Attached to the main school building, providing continuity in the learning experience.

We work collaboratively as an Early Years team, which enhances the learning experience by offering children access to high-quality learning environments across both settings. This close partnership also ensures a smooth and supportive transition into school life as they enter their Reception year.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum focuses on seven key areas:

  1. Communication and language
  2. Physical development
  3. Personal, social, and emotional development
  4. Literacy
  5. Mathematics
  6. Understanding the world
  7. Expressive arts and design

We offer a holistic, play-based approach where children explore, discover, and learn in a nurturing and inspiring setting.

Ventrus MAT

Ventrus (formerly The Primary Academies Trust) was set up in 2011 by a group of like minded headteachers who wanted to build a stable and secure platform from which they could grow a network of excellent schools.
